Our Design Services

We work with customers on an as-needed basis to define system level and board level architectures. XEDI has vast experience in embedded microprocessor/controller design using:

  • Motorola Embedded PowerPC, 68HX11, 6809
  • IBM Embedded PowerPC
  • Intel 8X51, 80x86
  • Microchip PIC

Embedded Systems Design and Contract Services - How we do it

Working with our customer on-site, we characterize and focus the system architecture I/O, creating a high-level electrical and mechanical block diagram. Customer performance objectives and system requirements are checked and we complete a detailed design. We work closely with our customer's mechanical design department, ensuring the new system mates to existing equipment. Board place and route, card fabrication, and board building are all completed next. Finally, we bring the boards up to full operation, including device-specific software, at our customer's site.

Schematic Entry

Schematics are entered in Viewlogic's Viewdraw, Accel's Schematic Capture, or Cadence's Concept. We have an extensive parts library compiled from 50 years combined design experience. For schematics entered in other design tools, we can translate most customer netlists into either Allegro or Accel PCB format in preparation for place and route.

Place and Route

Using Cadence's Allegro or Accel PCB, we place components, copper pours, and split power planes, and also manually route critical nets on printed circuit boards. Autorouting is completed using SPECCTRA 8.0 routers and we use custom do files or customer supplied do files. Manual route cleanup is performed in Allegro or Accel PCB.

Raw Card Fabrication and Build

XEDI has agreements in place with several raw card manufacturers to produce one-day turns of multi-layer cards. We also have agreements with an award winning assembly house to populate and test printed circuit cards. In a typical arrangement, we procure raw cards, order all parts on the bill-of-materials, make kits for the build, and contract for the board assembly.

Documentation

As part of its design process, we furnish customers with notebooks containing hardcopy of all schematics, Gerbers, bill-of-materials, design notes and PLD source code generated. We also furnish the customer with a compact disc (CD) that contains all schematics, Gerbers, and datasheets in Adobe Acrobat .pdf format. Also included on the CD are the bill-of-materials and any CPLD source code generated

On-site Debug and Integration

We typically work on-site with our customers to debug and bring-up all boards. Once board debug is complete, we will assist, as needed, in integrating boards into the customer's target system.
